Electro-Acoustic Classical Guitar by Paradis (Rolf Spuler)

The Paradis Avalon (here the classic version with nylon strings) is a legendary guitar developed by the Swiss instrument maker Rolf Spuler. It is known for its futuristic headless design combined with exceptional craftsmanship. The innovative polyphonic electronics were primarily conceived by Matthias Grob, who continues to develop the electronic system (Polybass) and, following Rolf's untimely death in 2014, keeps the website running.

Together, these features enable the outstanding acoustic guitar sound, which remains unchanged even when amplified and generates no feedback. The Avalon model, considered a masterpiece of Swiss instrument making, combines masterful craftsmanship with groundbreaking electronics.

Details

• Material: Mahogany body and neck

• Headless design: Tuning machines are located on the back of the body.

• Drop-D extension: The low E string has two additional frets for a low D tuning, as well as an E clamp for standard tuning.

• Hexaphonic pickups (polyphonic): Each string has its own perfectly separated piezo sensor. The goal, in addition to MIDI compatibility, was a clear, dynamic acoustic sound. Each string rests on its own brass saddle, isolated from the body. This design ensures extreme string separation, which is essential for polyphonic playing. This system was later licensed by Ibanez as "Mono-Rail."

• Hexaphonic pickups (polyphonic): Each string has its own perfectly isolated piezo sensor. • Polybass Box (incl. power supply):

Among other things, it allows for the octave substitution of the lowest three (or two) strings.

The Polybass Box is a more compact version (of the earlier Polysubbass / 19" rack version) that is now also available for other guitars (e.g., Godin Multiac or instruments with the Roland GK system). The system can also be used for MIDI control of synthesizers, such as the Roland GR-33. This external device detects the lowest string being played in real time and adds an analog sub-octave to it. The result is a full, orchestral sound that can simulate an accompanying bassist.

• Rarity & Value: The Paradis Avalon is an exclusive collector's item. Only about 250 units were handcrafted. Notable users of the guitar included Al DiMeola, Andreas Vollenweider, Jose Neto, Bela Fleck, Pino Daniele, and Peter Horton.

Connection is via the included cable, which also provides power for the active onboard electronics.
