1984 G&L USA Superhawk — Original Owner, First-Year Production, Kahler "Patent Pending" Tremolo, Original Case

Original owner since 1985. Purchased new at Oceanside School of Music, Oceanside, NY.

This is a first-year production G&L USA Superhawk — body dated May 1984, neck dated September 1984, serial number G016860. The Superhawk was introduced in mid-1984 as one of three "Superstrat" models alongside the Rampage and Invader, making this guitar one of the earliest Superhawks ever built. Registered in the G&L Registry at guitarsbyleo.com.

G&L permanently closed its Fullerton, CA factory in September 2025. These USA-made instruments are now part of a finite, closed production run and will only become harder to find.

SPECS (all original unless noted):

• Body: 2-piece ash, black polyester finish
• Neck: 2-piece hard-rock maple, bolt-on, with tilt adjustment
• Fretboard: Ebony with pearloid dot markers
• Frets: 22, nickel silver alloy (18% nickel)
• Scale: 25.5"
• Pickups: Two Schaller humbuckers with adjustable pole pieces (original)
• Bridge: Kahler floating vibrato with fine tuners, chrome — stamped "Patent Pending" (original, extremely early)
• Tuners: G&L/Schaller sealed chrome (original)
• Controls: Master volume, master tone, 3-way pickup selector switch
• All electronics, pickups, tuners, bridge, and switch are original

MODIFICATIONS:

• One control knob replaced with a G&L bass knob (chrome knurled — close match but not exact original)
• Locking nut replaced with a G&L locking nut (G&L part, but not the original unit)
• Professionally set up by a luthier for left-handed playing on the right-handed body (I learned right-handed and later switched to left-handed). Easily reversible for a right-handed player with a standard setup.

CONDITION (honest disclosure):

• Cosmetic wear throughout: nicks and scratches on the body consistent with 40+ years of regular playing
• Pitting on some chrome hardware
• Light rust on a few screws
• A few small nicks on back of neck
• All wear is cosmetic — guitar plays and sounds great after professional setup
