About This Listing

1966 Gibson Korina Flying V. This is most likely the last of the original style Korina Flying V guitars to be produced before the introduction of the 1967 style, which is of a somewhat different design. It has all the hallmarks of the Flying V guitars that left the factory post 1964 and before 1967. Chrome covered patent sticker pickups, chrome ABR-1 bridge (ABR-1 marked on bottom)with nylon saddles, silver capped mid-60's control knobs and ""double ring" Kluson tuning pegs. The pots date to 1966, though the "bones" of the guitar most likely may have been constructed sometime before that. It differs from earlier V's, as there is no rubber skid pad on the treble side and it has the Explorer style neck joint. There is a "2" stamped above the serial number on the top rear of the peghead which usually indicates factory second or discontinued model. The 5 digit serial number, 10xxx is very lightly stamped in the common font size used by Gibson during the 60's. Included is some info from A. Duchossoir's first Gibson Electrics book regarding serial numbers and a photo of an Explorer from the same time frame showing the same chrome hardware and knobs etc. It has been refretted with jumbo frets and has a new fossil nut by Elderly Instruments. Included is the original Elderly Instruments ad from Vintage Guitar Magazine from 15 or so years ago. If you google 1966 Korina Flying V more pics from Elderly Instruments will come up. The same pics are featured on The 1967-1971 Gibson Flying V Website at the bottom of the homepage. It is housed in the original Ess+Ess case with the embossed Gibson badge on one of the two case pockets. You can clearly see that the guitar has always resided in this case. The latches have been replaced. The original truss rod cover is included in the case, I installed the Custom truss rod cover just because I had a spare and I believe it adds a touch of "class". Listing says local pickup only because there is no way to estimate shipping until a shipment is prepared, however I will ship worldwide at the buyers expense. Please buy with confidence, check my feedback and other items here on Reverb and also my feedback on Ebay where my user name is "guitaridealism". I've been in the vintage guitar business for almost 50 years and my many satisfied clients have included Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, members of Aerosmith, The J. Geils Band, Joe Bonamassa, Bob Dylan, Keith Urban, Hall and Oates, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac and many, many other happy clients. With 1958/59 models priced/selling in the 350K and up range this is a chance to own one of the most iconic guitars in the history of vintage guitars at a more favorable price. Thanks for looking and feel free to contact me with your phone number and I will call you to discuss anything you like regarding this fine guitar. Best Regards, Craig Jones
