Vintage 1987 made in japan Stratocaster
The 1987 "E-Series" Squier occupies a legendary spot in gear history. If you've been hunting for one or just trying to make sense of the hype, the short answer is that they are phenomenal, player-grade instruments that punch way above their weight.
However, there is a massive catch with the "E" serial numbers: where it was built changes everything.
In 1987, Squier production was transitioning. You will find E-series models stamped Made in Japan (MIJ) and others stamped Made in Korea (MIK). They look similar on paper, but underneath the hood, they are completely different beasts.
1. The Holy Grail: Made in Japan (MIJ) E-Series
Built primarily at the revered FujiGen Gakki factory, these guitars are highly sought after because the craftsmanship rivaled (and sometimes beat) USA Fenders of the mid-'80s.
This one has been upgraded with the Alnico V pickups and wiring harness from a Fender Player Series strat.
This guitar has the best condition, best working System 1 tremolo system I have seen.
The ineffective “behind the nut” locking bracket has been removed and replaced by a roller nut that really makes the tremolo effectively stay in tune.
New locking tuners installed
Included is a well-traveled hard case and a strap with schaffer strap locks.
