The early1950s represent a spectacular era for C.F. Martin & Co., combining the refined post-war build techniques with some of the finest old-growth tonewoods the world has ever seen. We are incredibly proud to offer this beautiful 1950Martin 000-28.

The Triple-O body style is legendary for its perfect proportions, offering an incredibly balanced frequency response and unmatched playing comfort. This particular acoustic is a phenomenal specimen that balances remarkable structural integrity with the deep, complex tonal profile that only an authentic, mid-century Brazilian Rosewood Martin can provide.

The Finish, Body & Condition

For a guitar celebrating nearly 80 years of music-making, this 000-28 is in very nice, exceptionally clean shape. The original lacquer finish is intact across the entire instrument, displaying a gorgeous, tight vintage patina and light checking that only adds to its historic charm.

  • The Back & Sides: The highlight of this instrument is an absolute masterclass set of premium Brazilian Rosewood. The wood selection is exceptional, featuring an incredibly tight, straight grain that is visually striking and acoustically superior to almost anything found on the market today.
  • Top & Structure: The solid spruce top is highly resonant and has aged to a deep, golden amber. On the lower edge, there are a few extremely small hairline cracks. We have thoroughly inspected these, and they are completely stable and solid.
  • The Bridge: The original bridge has been replaced with a slightly oversized reproduction bridge. It is perfectly secured, visually correct, and ensures great structural stability for the top.

Playability & Neck Profile

The neck has a wonderful, distinct early 50s feel that fills the hand comfortably without feeling overly bulky. The original tuners are present, functioning smoothly, and holding pitch beautifully.

  • Action & Playability: Currently, the guitar is set up with medium action and plays wonderfully as a strummer, but this guitar would need a neck reset to acheive low action. It chords cleanly up and down the entire neck with absolutely no buzzing. The original frets are in great condition with only very light wear.

The Legendary Brazilian Triple-O Tone

Because of its exceptional, tight-grained Brazilian Rosewood back and sides paired with eight decades of natural aging, the tone of this 000-28 is nothing short of fantastic. It delivers the absolute ideal, textbook definition of vintage Martin punch and sophistication.

The low end is remarkably deep, dark, and authoritative, yet it remains completely tight and clear without a hint of muddiness. The midrange is incredibly woody, complex, and focused, pushing single notes out with a massive, immediate projection. Meanwhile, the high end sings with a glassy, bell-like sparkle and a metallic chime that rings out long after you stop strumming. The overall voice is exceptionally balanced, possessing a mature, wide-open resonance and a natural compression that responds beautifully to the nuances of your right hand.

Provenance & Case Accessories

This post-war icon is ready for its next chapter and comes well-protected:

  • Includes a non-original hardshell case.

This 1950 000-28 is a rare opportunity to own a golden-era Martin acoustic with prime, straight-grained Brazilian Rosewood that looks every bit as spectacular as it sounds.
