***** ABOUT ROTHSTEIN GUITARS *****

We know a thing or two about guitar wiring.  Rothstein Guitars has been crafting the finest professional grade wiring since the year 2002.  In fact, we were the very first to offer drop in wiring harnesses for the Jazzmaster, many years before our competitors. Over the years we have developed many inventive mods offering tonal improvement, including the JM180 wiring.  We use only the finest components and each unit is assembled at our shop in NJ, USA.

******* ABOUT JM180-X WIRING *******

This is a totally cool and unique mod for you Jazzmaster that requires absolutely no visual changes to your instrument. Your pickup will have 2 modes: normal gain and high gain! No batteries, no preamps, just 2 version of a pickup in one. Curtis Novak's amazing JM180 pickup is built on his very popular JM-90 platform, but takes this great pickup to a whole new level. Like with his JM-90 this will fit in a standard Jazzmaster pickup route.

Here's the deal. I can't tell you how many serious Jazzmaster players have told me they NEVER use the upper rhythm, it is just too dark, or it sounds like someone stuffed cotton in your ears... So Curt got the idea of this tapped JM pickup and we worked together to redesign the wiring for the upper rhythm circuit converting it into a high gain lead circuit with its own separate volume and tone. So when you slide the switch to the upper circuit you will get the full-0 JM-180. Curt came up with the name JM-180 because it is 2 full JM-90's in one, but also it does a complete 180 on the dark rhythm circuit making it a over driven lead circuit, without the need of an overdrive pedal.

We use special pots and caps in the rhythm circuit, and the rhythm circuit's tone pot is a bass cut pot, similar to what we do on our STB super mod. The bass cut pot works really well to "tune" the high-gain JM180 pickup.

These are the finest wiring harnesses you can put into your Jazzmaster. They are wired by hand and feature superb components including:
  • Curtis Novak JM-180 Bridge Pickup / JM-V Neck Pickup (with white covers)
  • WD Music White 3-Ply Pickguard
  • Rothstein 3 Mil Thick Copper Shield - these sell for $34.95 - This is the highest quality shield on the market, and will go a long way in quieting your Jazzmaster and improving your tone.
  • Cream plastic knobs and switch tip.
  • CTS
  • Sozo NextGen Blue Molded cap in the lead circuit - a great sounding cap made in the USA.
  • Mallory 150 series bass cut cap in the rhythm circuit. These are tubular metalized polyester caps and are quite smooth sounding.
  • Treble bleed mod- To prevent the loss of highs as you lower your volume. We use a 1000 pf Mallory 150 series cap in parallel with a 150k resistor.
  • Switchcraft right angle toggle switch
  • Switchcraft slide switch
  • Switchcraft jack
  • Gavitt Vintage style "push-back" cloth wire in period correct colors (red, blue, green, yellow, black, and white)
