This is a MKIII Tone Bender. Its circuit is accurate to early examples of the MKIII, warts and all. Albeit built on my prefered stripboard (Vero). This is one loud and aggressive fuzz box. Thick, heavy fuzz tone, bags of harmonics and character, sounds massive with chords and tons of sustain.
Whereas JuJu was a small box MKIII, Headley Grange is a full size fuzz pedal with all the stops pulled out. Some of you may remember the Moonshot which was the prototype for this small run of pedals.
As always, the best components available have been used, including carbon composition resistors, new old stock Wima, Iskra, Phillips and LCR capacitors all housed in a custom made heavyweight steel enclosure. Professionally finished in a gloss black metalic with gold and silver two stage screen-print (the bottom half of the case is in black hammer). HG has a Bulgin battery draw and rubber feet (can be mounted on a pedal-board with the included CS screws). Hardware is from Cliff UK, Carling and Citec UK. Everything is custom bespoke to this pedal including the aluminium circuit bracket.
Transistors are carefully selected and fully tested Mullard CV5712 (which are Military issue OC71's from 1964) and a black glass Mullard/Phillips OC75. The diode is also a CV5712. The signal to noise ratio is very good indeed even for this high gain fuzz unit.
