This is an extremely rare find. Dumble Overdrive Special WX50, serial number #0041. This amp was built in 1978 by Howard Alexander Dumble in Santa Cruz. It comes with a Dumble 2x12 cabinet featuring Altec Lansing speakers. Alternatively, it can be equipped with a Celestion G1265 from the 1980s. The amp is in original condition except for a removed effects loop on the back, which has been sealed with an aluminum plate. Otherwise, the interior is untouched and exactly as it left Dumble’s workshop in 1978. The half-stack is covered in gray suede. All transformers are Schumacher/Fender from 1977.
This amp is being sold from Germany, near Cologne.
The amplifier was initially sold to England and has been in the possession of a collector in Austria since the early 2000s.
Anyone familiar with Dumble amps knows that the early Silverface models had a very specific sound. The half-stack sounds absolutely stunning—very warm and rich with that typical Dumble sustain. It works flawlessly. It is in excellent condition. Interested parties can contact me or schedule a test. I can provide additional photos upon request. An appraisal by George Gruhn is also available.
