In the mid-80s Yamaha needed a compact and more "modern" bass design to compete with the ever popular in Japan, Tune "Bass Maniac." and In 1986 they released the Motion Bass series, which had a heavy focus on playability with its slim, lightweight body and a 32" medium scale.
This here is the loaded body of a 1987 MB-III Super Edition, in an originally pearl white finish, but it has faded to a nice cream or vintage white. The main difference between a "Super Edition" MB-III and the normal is the inclusion of gold hardware, rather than chrome.
The reason for being the body only is due to the previous owner, who for some ungodly reason, decided to attach a long scale 20 fret neck from a Fresher brand precision bass, to this medium scale, 24 fret designed body. Obviously, this was completely incompatible and it resulted in the intonation being a full 3 notes off on every fret! So it seemed more appropriate to sell the parts separately :)
The overall condition of it is acceptable visually, it has its typical bumps and scratches, with the most unfortunate damage being the chipped paint on the upper horn, it is otherwise quite good for its age.
From a hardware perspective meanwhile, it's very solid, this would make a great parts or project bass as all the hardware functions perfectly, and feels great to use.
It's also a particularly lightweight example of a Motion Bass, and is a noticeably lighter body than the 3 others I've had the pleasure of owning, weighing in at a mere 4.8Ib.
