For sale is a vintage / antique WFL Ray McKinley snare drum, made in Chicago sometime between 1948 and 1959. 14” diameter, 6.5” deep. Original White Marine Pearl (WMP) finish that has yellowed with age.

This was made when William Ludwig didn’t own the name “Ludwig” so he manufactured drums under his initials. Otherwise it’s the same as Ludwig drums, with a three-ply shell with mahogany interior and maple reinforcement rings, and chrome-over-brass triple-flange hoops. The drums they made after WWII and before the Beatle boom are some of the best drums Ludwig ever made.

This drum between 66 and 78 years old and has been gigged, so it has some wear-and-tear. The shell and bearing edges are in great shape, but there are several small splits in the finish. I tried to get photos of the worst ones. There‘s also some minor pitting, scratches and tarnish in the chrome.

The P87 Classic strainer works perfectly — see video below.

The drum is sold as-is, so please ask questions before buying.

If you make an offer, I will either accept or decline. I don’t haggle. Also, please tell me your zip code.
