We deal in all sorts of guitars, but have a special place in our hearts for the mass produced Chicago made guitars sold through department store catalogs.
The Silvertone 1427 (aka Harmony H62) is a great example of the quality craftsmanship that went into their top of the line guitars.
It's a thick body (3"), jazz style guitar. It's in good shape for it's age (66). The neck is straight, all the electronics work properly and it was just set up so the action is pretty fast. It's got the usual wear for a guitar this age; there's some crazing (finish cracks) and some finish wear on some edges, but overall it's quite beautiful. The tonal range is extremely full and stunning: from Punk to Jazz to Country.
This is a Player's guitar and has some mods made to improve it's performance:
* The floating wood bridge has been replaced with a tune-o-matic mounted onto the body. This mod ensures you can play with a heavy hand without knocking the bridge out of place. Also, the intonation is vastly improved and allows you to have the choice of playing with a wound or unwound third string.
* The original Three-on-a-plank tuners have been swapped for sealed Gotoh tuners
* The oversized pickguard is missing.
Neck: Semi-chunky maple neck with white binding & black side-dots. Dark stained maple fingerboard with mother of pearl block inlays. Frets have been dressed and polished , so are at there are no divots in the guitar plays amazingly well.
1 11/16" nut width; 24 3/4" scale length. Neck is straight & truss rod works fine.
Action measures 1.75mm at the 12th fret of the low E string and 1.25mm at the 12th fret of the high E string
Guitar weighs 6.5 lbs
Electronics: loaded with a pair of Gibson made P-13 single coils that deliver rich, robust tones. 3-way toggle switch. Dual volume & tone controls with "cupcake" knobs. All electronics are in good working condition.
Fully inspected & professionally set up with fresh strings & low action so it's ready to play straight out of the case.
