1990s MIJ ESP Random Star Body - Akira Takasaki Tribute
Despite its cult following, the Random Star is a shape that never seems to get much love from the big manufacturers. Appearing to be from ESP’s 400 Series, or possibly a lesser-known Edwards, ZEP-II, or Navigator model, here's a great option if you're finally ready to put one together!
It's been refinished from its original red to a striking pearlescent white, paying tribute to Akira Takasaki’s lesser-known "Random Star Lime Gold." The refinish isn't "factory flawless," but it certainly isn't amateur either. It’s a solid, professional-looking job that holds up under the lights and remains clean aside from a few small impressions and scratches. The black pinstriping appears to be a high-quality decal applied above the clear coat.
It's routed for an OFR and a neck with a 56mm heel (2 3/16"), 22 frets, and a 25.5" scale length.
