Released in the early 1990s, the RD70 was conceived as a reliable alternative to using a computer on stage, allowing musicians to store sequences and play them back from 3.5" floppy disks using simple transport-style controls.

The unit records directly to 3.5" double-density MS-DOS compatible floppy disks and saves sequences in Standard MIDI File Format Type 0, ensuring compatibility with most MIDI sequencers and MIDI software.

This makes the RD70 a practical tool for backing up sequences, transporting MIDI files between systems, or running automated playback during live performances.
