Mary Ford — born Iris Colleen Summers — was a pioneering guitarist, vocalist, and recording innovator whose work with Les Paul helped shape the sound of popular music in the 1950s. Through groundbreaking multi-track recording techniques and flawless vocal harmonies layered with her own guitar playing, Ford helped produce a remarkable string of hit records between 1950 and 1954. Her partnership with Les Paul not only defined a musical era but also influenced the development of several iconic Gibson instruments.

This signature model draws inspiration from an extraordinarily rare instrument believed to have been built in 1958 at Mary Ford’s request — a Les Paul Goldtop featuring the ornate ES-295-style floral pickguard and matching armrest. Gibson has faithfully recreated that one-of-a-kind design, pairing classic Les Paul construction with distinctive visual details that make this model stand apart. The Goldtop finish with a Vintage Cherry back is particularly unusual for a Les Paul, while the elegant cream-and-gold floral pickguard pays homage to Ford’s stylish stage presence.

Under the hood, this guitar remains a true Les Paul Standard. A non-weight-relieved mahogany body with a carved maple cap provides the sustain and warmth players expect, while the SlimTaper mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard offers fast, comfortable playability. A pair of Burstbucker pickups — Burstbucker 2 in the neck and Burstbucker 3 in the bridge — deliver classic PAF-style tone with rich mids, articulate highs, and powerful dynamics.
