A true holy grail! I'm beyond excited to be posting this example!
This is an excellent condition 1966 Fender Stratocaster in a rare custom color, Olympic White. All original, no breaks, no routes, etc. I think we all know who to think of when discussing this piece.
This example was bought in 1966 as a factory Olympic White that had been resprayed as a thinner coat at the factory. The guitar was played, but then sat inside the 2nd owners closet, unmodified, for 38 years. As you would expect, this example shows the original play wear from the early days, but remained very clean within the case. There is some beautiful finish checking happening throughout the neck and headstock, exactly as Fender attempts to copy in their modern day Custom Shop. There is also some very nice finish wear happening in the usual zones of the body, showcasing the original owners love for the tonal qualities of this example. All of the original hardware, knobs, and pickup covers have a lovely aged look, as seen in the high quality pictures attached.
Most 60's Olympic White examples can be seen fading to a more undesirable yellow hue, while this example, more than likely stemming from the absence of exposure to the elements, has maintained the very clean white color to the finish.
This example also maintains the original CBS-era Fender F-plate, reading serial number "161591". This would leave this example falling within middle of the year 1966. The original tremolo cover is also included on this example. Surprisingly, the original tremolo arm has also stayed with the guitar and feels very responsive.
In regards to the neck, the original finish has a very smooth, fast feel in the hand. Lovingly worn in, without a significant knick, gauge, or touch up to speak on. And of course, we can't go without mentioning the sustain-driven change from the smaller "spaghetti logo" headstock of the pre-CBS days, to a larger "transition era" headstock featuring the unmistakable thicker gold Fender lettering. For most, this was a positive, aesthetically pleasing change, myself included. When I think of a 60's Stratocaster, my mind goes straight to the larger headstock of the late 60's into the 70's.
Traveling further up the neck, we have the original Kluson Deluxe tuners, still in excellent shape. As shown in the attached photos, the original tuning keys, string posts, and bushings are all in perfect working order, and are surprisingly clean. This continues to add to the remarkable "time capsule" title that this piece deserves.
Moving on to the electronics, which maintain the originality to this example. I have all the needed internal photos needed pre-purchase, and can confirm the pots and pickups (full, lush, and the perfect amount of Stratocaster "hollowness" that we have all heard on some of our favorite records) are in perfect working order as well. Additionally, this example maintains the original pick guard. The original 3-way pickup selector switch has had the common switch for a 5-way, more than likely for tonal purposes when previously owned and played by Toto. I am happy to photograph any of these components in preparation for purchase/shipment.
Finally, this example is accompanied by the original Fender "transition" black tolex hard shell case, with the original orange/red velvet lining, as pictured. The interior of this case has the perfect amount of broken in look and feel, while continuing to be vibrant and sturdy in person. There is a reason why these cases can go for $800+ alone.
In conclusion, outside of the 1929 Martin 000-45 that I privately sold in 2025, this has been the single coolest piece that has came through my shop. Maintaining a remarkable amount of originality and history, with a verified link to a truly legendary band and era of Stratocasters, this would be THE holy grail Stratocaster for collectors and players alike. So much vibe, and so many incredible tones are radiating out of this example. Incredibly maintained, this guitar is set up and ready to go for it's next owner to love and appreciate. Again, do not hesitate to reach out with questions, concerns, and a request of further photographs. As always, I am always willing to drive a reasonable distance, or ship worldwide (please reach our pre-purchase if out of the United States to discuss proper shipping cost). Always open to offers!
