The Rarest Of All Mesa Boogie Amplifiers! One of 5 ever made and the only one of it's kind in this long head box configuration size. While not a production model, Mesa engineers and primarily Mike Bendinelli, were researching a different approach to boost gain during the last run on Mark IIC+ models.
During that process, five (5) units using 60/100w. 75w Simul-Class, and Coliseum chassis had a labor-intensive boost channel added called the C++. This new level of gain was accessed using the "Mid" pot (unmarked) by pulling it to switch between C+ & C++.
These amps were most notably used by James Hetfield of Metallica.
According to Mesa Boogie's Wikipedia page: The Mark IIC+ is currently the most coveted vintage Boogie, selling for twice its original price on average, because of its much praised "Liquid Lead" mode, and also its warm, clean rhythm mode. 12 Factory C+s with switchable ++ are known to exist, before this idea was used in the Mark III, with the ++ being developed further to become the R2 channel on the III.
From Mike Bendinelli at Mesa Boogie regarding this actual amp: "Yes, that's my MB (initials) and the ++ appears to be my hand also. They never had a label on the pull mid pot and there were actually only 6 or 8 (???) of these done at the time. It's a ++ for sure"
