Description
This is an original 1961 Gibson TV Les Paul Special Double Cutaway guitar in the highly coveted TV Yellow finish. The guitar appears to have vintage style strings. I decided to leave this alone as this this guitar plays beautifully with a straight neck, low action, and has solid intonation.
This guitar comes with the original Gibson P-90 pickups, delivering everything you’d expect from golden-era P-90s; snappy attack, fat midrange, clear highs, and a dynamic response that reacts beautifully to your picking hand and volume knob. Whether you’re chasing vintage rock, blues, or roots tones, these won’t disappoint.
This Gibson has the original Stackpole potentiometers and Bumblebee capacitors, all untouched and fully functional. These components are a core part of the classic late-’50s Gibson tone, providing smooth taper and the warm, musical response player.
Includes: A non-original hard case.
Condition:
This is a good example of a honest vintage guitar that has been used but not abused, likely a studio or TV production instrument that was used for a few years and then put away because of color tv! The original TV Yellow finish has aged beautifully, with extensive but attractive finish checking throughout, giving it that classic golden-era Gibson look. As expected on a 65-year-old instrument, there are a couple of large and small dings, chips, and light playwear also one key has a slight bend but functions fine. Please see pictures for more details.
There is the typical finish checking around the neck joint, which is extremely common on this model. Not to be alarmed these are only in the finish, the wood is perfectly solid, with no structural cracks, breaks, or repairs. We’ve included blacklight photos of the, head neck joint, and body for reference.
This Gibson TV Les Paul is rated in Very-Good Vintage condition. Appears all original with the bridge replaced at sometime in its early years. Approximate year of manufacture is 1961.
Guitar Condition Ratings
All our guitars are graded per Reverb’s gear grading guide to help determine the condition of our guitars in a uniform fashion. All of our guitars are preowned; they may show some type of usage and handling wear. All guitars have been tested for functionality and are playable; in some rare instances, a guitar may need a small adjustment or setup. Any outstanding problems will be noted.
Also note: Condition ratings will only apply to the guitar and not the case. Cases are for protecting the valuable merchandise inside and will always show some kind of wear and tear.
Very Good (Vintage) describes items with perhaps a few more cosmetic imperfections than Excellent but are still in great condition overall. With a Very Good guitar, for example, you might find some scratches, buckle rash, or other minor blemishes but nothing that affects the playability or function of the instrument.
Good condition includes items that are in fine working order but have some visual imperfections here and there. A pedal with scratches and dents on its chassis, a guitar with some cracks in the binding, or maybe an old snare drum with some corrosion on the lugs could all be classified as Good. All of these items work just fine but have enough visual imperfections to only be in the middle of the scale.
