RCO Pedals Pepperbox (Volt Thrower build w/clean blend) 2025 - Raw aluminum with green knobs

The Pepperbox is a trace by Effects Layouts of the now discontinued Dunwich Volt Thrower circuit, with an added Clean Blend circuit. 

An expertly tuned, bass specific Rat variant with a ton of clipping options that also sounds equally massive with guitar.  This build utilizes an LTC1144 voltage doubler which bumps your 9v power supply into 18v internally. It’s also capable of receiving up to 18v, bumping that up to a staggering 36v internally. 

Controls are from left to right starting at top: Lows, Highs and Gain. Bottom is Volume and Clipping is a 6 position rotary switch to change the clipping diodes between germanium diodes, LED and silicon clipping diodes in all sorts of configurations, including a diode lift, allowing the opamp shine. Larger knob on far right is the Blend knob, fully CCW (or off) is just the wet signal, fully CW is just your dry signal and noon is a perfect mix of the two. 

Lastly, don’t forget to tweak the two internal trimpots (labeled Low and Other) to further adjust the frequencies to your liking.
