Slingerland - 5.5x14" Gene Krupa Radio King, Solid Maple, 3-point Strainer, 1951 - 1954. (JL Sling #3)
This Slingerland 5.5x14" Radio King is a gleaming example of the legendary single ply snare that has long been recognized as one of the best snare drums ever made. From the golden era of true solid-shell Radio King production. Built between the late 1950s and early 1960s, it retains the legendary 1-ply maple shell with reinforcement rings that defined Slingerland’s flagship sound for two decades.
Solid maple shell with reinforcement rings (steam-bent, hand-finished), White Marine Pearl wrap, 3-Point Strainer, Stick Saver hoops, rotary muffler, oval badge, original wires, and 8 lugs. New Remo heads top and bottom.
This drum has all its original parts and is in exceptional condition. There's some minor yellowing in the finish and minor pitting on some of the nickel hardware. Seam is tight. Some extremely minor splits in the finish near the seam. There is zero open space in the split (see pic).
This drum simply radiates! The shell and edges are flawless. Shell is round and heads fit easily. The photos tell it like it is.
