m offering a 1988 Fender American Standard Telecaster – an early and highly desirable example from the very beginning of the modern FMIC-era. Instruments from 1987–1989 are especially respected for their excellent build quality, selected alder bodies and comfortable neck profiles that differ slightly from the later ‘90s run.
This is a fully original Brown Sunburst finish – the correct name used by Fender in the late ’80s (before the wide adoption of the “3-Tone Sunburst” naming in the ’90s).
A great-sounding, reliable and classic American Telecaster from the first Corona years.
Condition
Overall very good condition for a 36-year-old instrument.
The lacquer shows normal playwear, some small marks and light scratches on the body and pickguard, perfectly in line with its age.
Frets are in very good shape, the neck is straight, and the guitar sets up beautifully.
Electronics and hardware work perfectly – ready to play immediately.

Why these first-year American Standards matter
- The first Corona-era Telecasters – historically important and extremely well built.
- Early American Standards feature excellent wood selection and a slightly more refined neck shape.
- The late-80s American Standard pickups have a punchy, articulate character with a strong Tele twang.
- Brown Sunburst from this era ages beautifully and is less common than later 3TSB versions.
Included
- The guitar only (no case).
