Extremely rare matched stereo pair of MD-96 dynamic cardioid microphones, produced in the early 1990s by "Mikrophon-M" - the successor company to the legendary VNIIRPA Popov Institute.

VNIIRPA (1923-1973), officially known as the "All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Radio-Broadcasting Reception and Acoustics named after A.S. Popov," was the pinnacle of Soviet microphone engineering. This institute developed legendary microphones including the MK-12, MK-13, MK-14 tube microphones, and other professional audio equipment that set the standard for Soviet-era sound technology.

These microphones represent a fascinating piece of post-Soviet audio engineering history. "Mikrophon-M" was established in 1991 on the foundation of VNIIRPA's acoustic laboratory, inheriting decades of advanced microphone development expertise from one of the USSR's premier audio research institutions.
