 David Iriguchi Keystone “Dream” Tenor Pineapple Ukulele with Pickup

I recently purchased a truly beautiful tenor pineapple ukulele with pickup made by respected West Coast luthier David Iriguchi in 2013.

I knew nothing of David Iriguchi and his ukuleles before purchasing this instrument, so I found David’s website and Facebook page and reached out to him by text.

Here is the edited correspondence:

Me: I recently purchased a beautiful instrument that you made. It’s still in fairly good condition despite a few stable cracks on the back. It is #070 “Dream,” signed by you. I know absolutely nothing about this wonderful instrument other than that it is a tenor pineapple. I don’t know what wood it is made out of, when it was made, and how to care for it. Would you be kind enough to share what information about it that you might have?

David responded and said that "Dream" was completed in the summer of 2013 and the back and soundboard are made of spalted tamarind, the sides are poplar, and the neck is bubinga. He said the woods are all solid.

Please take into consideration that there are three tight, stable hairline cracks on the front of the instrument and two additional tight, stable hairline cracks on the back as well as what may or may not be hairlines on the side since they are so tight that they may simply be natural lines. These hairlines are very hard to see and photograph because of the nature of the wood. This wonderful, handmade instrument plays beautifully and is physically quite stable. My preference is for soprano ukuleles otherwise I would keep it.
