Remember those old Kramers and Hartkes that had the metal necks?
Well, the story goes that good 'ol Henry Vaccaro was working there at the time and personally held the patent for this metal neck shenanigans. He passed that patent along to his son Henry Jr., who then started the Vaccaro Guitar Company in the late 90s. Everyone from U2 to Lenny Kravitz and Bon Jovi were playing these things… and honestly, I love this guitar.
I bought this X-Ray V2 (V2 was the Korean-made version of the Vaccaro instruments) new in 2002, just as the company was closing up shop and just as I was heading to college. It is, honestly, one of the best guitar purchases I've ever made.
The color is called Deja Blue. The all-aluminum neck is enclosed in maple and it has a gorgeous rosewood fretboard. the neck is thin and fast, with a satin finish. This guitar is in great condition for being almost 20 years old, with a few dings here and there.
About three years ago I switched the Vaccaro pickups out for the Rio Grande Muy Grande pickups that came in the American-made version of this guitar. This baby screams, in a good way. Coil tap, string-through body, Gotoh tuning machines, professionally maintained for 16 years, and kept in either a case or displayed on the wall.
Check out the photos and do a bit of research on this guitar. It's a gem and I think it's time for someone else to enjoy it as much as I have.
For whoever purchases this guitar, I will throw in the original pickups (just for nostalgia sake), in case you want to play around with them.
