S.S. Stewart Banjeaurine Openback Banjo ca. 1890 in excellent condition.

s/n 6137

A higher-pitched version of the conventional 5-string banjo, this banjeaurine is tuned up a fourth to open C. It is strung with nylon strings with a wound 4th, we do not recommend steel strings for this instrument. It has gone through an extensive restoration including a newly fabricated bone nut and a new fiberskyn head.

Repairs:

  • Clean/polish pot
  • Mount new fiberskyn head
  • Repairs cracks & separations in heel stack, retouch
  • Fabricate bone nut & 5th string nut
  • Dress frets, clean/polish neck, refit heel, set up
  • 12 new round hooks
  • 4 period bracket nuts (close match)
  • New bridge 5/8" (maple/ebony)
  • Non-knot tailpiece

Specs:

  • Nut width: 1-1/4"
  • Scale length: 19-1/2"
  • Total length: 28"
  • Cherry neck, ebony Fingerboard, crescent/stars/diamonds inlay
  • 19 frets (13 clear of rim)
  • 30 rounded L-shoes & round hooks, mostly original
  • Early Grover friction pegs
  • Weight: 4.5 lbs
  • Gold Tone gig bag included (perfect fit!)
