Here's one you may not have seen. These basses were launched by Kauer at NAMM. I had the chance to play one and how light and well balanced they were for the shape had me hooked.
Doug Kauer is well known in the boutique guitar world but has only dabbled in basses. This is Draken #7 and the first build he's done with a stingray style pickup and active electronics.
I picked this up in his birthday sale, it's only been played for a few hours so excellent condition. I just don't rock hard enough for this body shape and my 4 strings get very little attention. I talked to Doug about building a 32" scale neck for me but figure i should let this go along to someone who can rock it appropriately.
Very high end materials/build. Doug had this listed for $5,300 on his site.
8 lbs! Super comfy to play on the lap. A bit of a long reach to first position on a strap, I think it's meant to be slung at a lower angle than I play though. Why did the funk fusion guy think he could pull this bass off?
- Spanish Mahogany body
- Roasted Flame maple neck (flame is absolutely gorgeous when looking down at it while playing
- Wenge fretboard
- Seymour Duncan Musicman pickup
- Seymour Duncan 3band active preamp with push/pull contour on volume knob.
- 34" scale
- 1.57" nut
- Hipshot bridge and hipshot ultralite tuners
Kauer PLEKs all their instruments so this thing plays like butter.
The second one of these just popped up on tour with Kane Brown.
