1937 Martin D-18 With Original Finish And All Original Parts.
Very Good Overall Condition.
Finish Has Some Spots Of Overspray, But Is In Very Presentable Original Condition With Some Areas Of Wear From Use. It Has Recently Been Buffed And Cleaned And Looks Very Presentable (See Photos).
Adirondack Spruce Top, Straight Grain Mahogany Back, Sides, And Neck With Ebony Fingerboard.
Forward Shifted, Scalloped X-Braced Model With Pre-War Hide Glue Construction And Old-Style 18 Inlays.
Neck Measures 1.77” Nut Width (.02” Over 1&3/4”) With The Depth Measuring .8“ At The First Fret And 1.0” At The 10th. The Profile Is The Typical Pre-War Martin Soft-V Shape And Has A Nice Big, Full Contour.
Has Had A Recent Neck Set Performed By Ryan Schuermann (LA Guitar Repair) And Truly Plays Beautifully With Low Action Measuring 2.5mm At The 12th Fret On The Bass Side And 2mm On The Treble Side. One Small Repaired 1/4” Crack On The Upper Bout Near the Heel (See Photos).
Original Bridge Plate And Bridge. The Bridge Had A Crack Running Through Width-Wise, But As It Is The Original Bridge We Opted To Repair The Crack And Re-Set It Rather Than Install A Replacement. The Repair Is Cosmetically Visible, But Is Completely Stable And Fuctional. Should The Buyer Prefer A Cleaner Look, A Correct Replacement Bridge (Like A TJ Thompson) Is Easily Installed (See Photos).
No Top Cracks Or Top Issues (Belly Behind The Bridge, Top Warping, Etc). There Are A Couple Small Finish Cracks/Deep Checks That Appear On the Back That Are Not Visible Inside The Guitar With No Cleats Present Or Evidence Of Repair In The interior Of The Body. We Have Tried To Show Them In The Listing Photos As Best We Can Close-Up, But They Are Minimal And Difficult To Bring Out In Pictures. Note That There Is Some Mold Visible In the Interior As Well, No Foul Odors (See Photos).
Frets Were Professionally Replaced At Some Point.
Original Open Back Grover G-93 6:1 Ratio Tuners Function Well, Especially For Being Almost 90 Years Old And Hold Tuning And Perform Well Without Slipping.
Original Pickguard Is Beautiful Tortoise And Fully Intact (See Photos).
The Original Geib Soft Shell Purple Lined Case Is In Poor Condition And Not Really Functional, So It Will Ship In A Newer TKL-Style ABS Plastic Hard Shell Case For Protection- The Original Could Also Be Included And Would Ship Separately.
This Is Not A Guitar That Is In “Collector Grade” Condition, But It Is A Very Nice Pre-War D-18 With Original Parts That Plays Really Well And Sounds Great.
