Here’s a rarity for those who know. Travis Bean Designs is the brain child of Kevin Burkett. Working closely with Mark McElwee, Travis’ original partner, and Travis’ widow, Travis Bean Designs has painstakingly reproduced the original monster aluminum neck guitars made by the legendary Travis Bean.
This is a TBD-1000A. Like the higher end model from the original line, these have a carved body. This one is stunning figured Monkeypod. The guitar is in beautiful shape, with one ding on the top (pictured) and minor fret ware from normal use (pictured). The knobs on the guitar now have numbers and are not original. The original all black ones are included.
The case is a Les Paul case, and is what the guitar originally shipped in. Kevin was having trouble with his case supplier at the time of purchase.
I’ve played this alongside and original Bean and I can tell you it is bang on. The pickups are HOT and sound just like the originals. Wiring also looks exactly like vintage. The neck on this is nicer, with a 12” radius rather than the original flat board.
The wait for these can be up to 2 years now, and the shop is notoriously difficult to pin down. So take this opportunity to grab one right away.
