Offering a vintage and rare 1940's BRUNO LABS Model MAMD "Velotron" RIBBON Microphone. William A. Bruno of the Bruno Laboratories in New York City invented the "Velotron" way back in the mid 1930's. These mics originally employed an internal element consisting of a rather crude wafer-like board with layers of metal "ribbons" sandwiched between a thin plate of copper.
Originally, these required special voltage to operate, and never sounded particularly good. Typically, this one no longer functioned at all, so we've custom-installed a new studio quality ribbon drive (figure-8 polar pattern with 1.8-micron, 2" long aluminum ribbon with powerful neodymium magnets, plus 1:36 transformer.) Now this thing sounds fantastic, with bi-directional pickup! I'd easily put the sound against one selling for thousands of dollars. Rich velvety tones, strong output, and does NOT require phantom power. (Voice sample can be heard on the listing video.)
The exterior is in excellent shape, all original condition, and has a Switchcraft type screw-on connector port. A short pigtail cable with male XLR plug is included, plus the basic display desk stand. The mic head is 7" tall with total height at 13". ** Always safe secure packaging and fast fair shipping....also offering combined shipping, when safe, on multiple purchases.**

** With a multi-decades long career in major market broadcast radio in the imaging/audio production field, I continue to buy, sell, collect and restore vintage microphones, primarily from the 1930's through the 1970's. Have a vintage mic to sell, need follow-up on a purchase, or just have a general question, we're here to help.
