For sale is a stunning and rare U.S.-built 1997 Zon Sonus 5-string bass (Serial #9703S62), completely overhauled by Joe Zon himself in 2016. This is a boutique-level instrument with true factory lineage and modern upgrades, blending vintage Zon craftsmanship with fresh playability.
In 2016, I brought this bass personally to Joe Zon’s shop in California, where it received a full factory overhaul including:
- Brand-new graphite/composite neck
- Abalone fingerboard face dots
- Bartolini pickups and 3-band active preamp with midrange control and 3-way mid frequency switch
- Complete electronics install, professional setup, and cosmetic refresh
Joe personally returned the rebuilt bass to me — photos of the handoff are included in the listing gallery.
