Russ McKinnon's Barry Manilow, DW Collector's Series, Ten and Six, All-Maple 7-Piece Set 2004 - Silver Sparkle

Performing over 3,000 major concert events in over 40 countries, Russ McKinnon has sat in some of the most desired and demanding drum chairs in the music industry.  Playing and recording with some of the biggest names in the business, this humble sideman's legendary lineup of headliners and top producers is clearly impressive. Tower of Power, Joe Cocker, Barry Manilow, David Foster, Phil Ramone, Clive Davis, Elton John and Bette Midler are just the tip of the iceberg.

Russ McKinnon played this set circa 2004-2024. DW started production of the set in late 2003, completing most of the set in time for Barry Manilow's 2004 US tour. The 8" tom came about 6 months later and the 5x14 snare about a year later.

Here's what Russ told me about the history of this set.

"That kit was my primary set for all 5 years of performances with Mr. Manilow at the Hilton in Las Vegas. (On the old Elvis stage. Hotel is now called the Westgate).
Later I used it with TOP subbing for DG. I think I sent you a picture of me playing it on stage with TOP at Jazz Alley. I also sent you a photo of me behind the kit at the Hilton (see pics).
Once I brought it home to LA, it was my “go-to” for most all pop and rock live situations.

Danny Seraphine, the original drummer and founding member of Chicago even played this set while sitting in at a live show with Russ's band.

The bass and toms are constructed with DW 7x3 shell configuration using a 7 ply maple shell and a 3 ply maple reinforcing ring. That snare shell is constructed with DW's 10x6 maple shell.

This set includes just the seven drums and floor tom legs. No other hardware or cymbals are included. A complete set of Russ's DW hardware and his complete Gibraltar rack are available separately.

The set remains in "as new" condition. Russ takes meticulous care of his gear, he even has his techs wear cotton gloves when they set up his drums. These drums still look like the day they were made.
