Gretsch 70's-80's "Tony Williams" 8-Piece Drum Set, 24", 18", 16", 15", 14", 14", 13", 12" Refinished.

Gretsch - 8-Piece Drum Set, 24", 18", 16", 15", 14", 14", 13", 12" 1970's-1980's

This drum set was inspired by the great Tony Williams. The original owner started out refinishing a collection of Stop Sign badge and Square badge Gretsch drums form the 1970s and 80s to recreate Tony Williams' legendary yellow 13/14/14/16/18/24 Gretsch set. He ended up adding a couple more drums.

This set includes a 24x14" bass drum, 18x16", 16x16" and 14x14" floor toms, 15x12, 14x10", 13x9" and 12x8" toms. This was clearly a labor of love project. It's not a vintage perfect collector set and is priced accordingly. If you''re looking for a great sounding Gretsch set with every tom size from 12" to 18" then this set's for you. I'll do my best to detail any notable issues.

Overall the finish is in very nice shape. You can see the condition in the photos. You'll see a few nicks and scratches. There is no snare rash on the toms. There's a lot of drums so it's not possible to show every nick and scratch. The photos will tell you everything you need to know. Here's the relevant information.

-All the drums tune up easily. No issues on the edges. The bass drum is one of those rare bass drums that sounds amazing with no muffling and no holes cut in the head. The toms sound great, just like you'd expect a great Gretsch drum to sound.

-The set has been refinished in a transparent gray satin stain.

-All correct Gretsch parts. Original Gretsch cast hoops top and bottom. All original lugs, T-rods and claws. The 14" and 16" floor toms have the 1970s tubular legs and mounts. The 18" floor has Diamond plate mounts with thinner legs.

-The badges are a combination of Gretsch Stop Sign and Square badges. Since the drums have been refinished and the badges were removed, we can't be certain if the badges are original to each drum.

-All of the shells are clearly Gretsch. To the best of my knowledge they're all Jasper shells. Some of the interiors appear to have been repainted in silver sealer. The interior paint on all the drums match, I see some runs and overspray on a few of the toms that make me think it's newer paint.

-There are no non-original holes on any of the drums with the exception of the 24" and 18". The 24" has a non-original (Tama?) tom mount and 2 filled holes from the original are visible. The 18" has 2 extra filled holes from what appears to have been a hanging tom mount.

-The bass drum had an additional set of spur mounts at one point. The mounts remain. The current set of spurs are solid heavy duty spurs that work great. See pic.

-All of the original mufflers and rack tom mounts have been removed and the holes filled. All toms are mounted with included RIMS mounts that cover the filled holes.

-Each drum has a brass badge engraved "Handcrafted by Clarence Robinson".

-Remo CS Black Dot heads on all toms (ala Tony Williams) with the exception of the 15".

Cymbals and snare are not included.
