Note: 12x15 Dynasonic marching drum is also available separately. Here's a set of vintage Rogers Holiday drums, early 60's Cleveland-era and sized 14x20", 8x12", and 16x16" with a match 5x14" Powertone snare drum - finished in their original black onyx wrap! These drums are in nice player-grade shape - nice bearing edges, no splits or lifting in its wrap - just minor cosmetic scratches in line with its age, and an excellent vintage Rogers sound! There's some minor yellowing to the white in their wrap along with a few light cosmetic scratches in the wrap's surface. 16 lug fastening screws in the 14x20" bass drum are unoriginal.
Heads are used but not abused coated Remo's on both batter and resonant sides, plus a coated powerstroke on the batter side of the bass drum and a ported smooth white on the resonant side. If you'd like us to include an unported head with this set, our usual resonant bass drum head of a choice - an unported Smooth White with a vintage Rogers script logo decal and the Remo crown removed - is also available for a $50 surcharge.
Steve’s notes: Rogers black onyx is a tougher finish to find, and the 12/16/20 combination is great. The matching 5x14 Powertone snare came with the set as well, which is extra-nice since complete black onyx kits with snares are hard to find. And, this set belong to Chad Cromwell, LA and Nashville session great. The 12x15 Dynasonic marching snare drum with gut wires is a drum I had had for a very long time. It is available separately if interested. The color for the 12x15 hasn’t mellowed as much as the original kit, but this is a fun drum to add. Can use it as a baritone snare, or flip the snares off and use it as an extra tom. You can check these two out together in the final two photos of our photoset!
Serial numbers and details:
14x20" - 36147 - all original excepting 16 lug fastening screws.
8x12" - 36611 - all original.
16x16" - 4494 - This drum has an earlier paper tag, but matches the set nicely. Many vintage drums came from the factory with non-sequential serial numbers, but there's no way to truly tell without documenting it all the way back. Both the 16x16" and 14x20" share some tighter onyx patterns in their finish that make me wonder if a Rogers factory worker held the 16" for its looks until more uniquely patterned black onyx drums made their way down the line - but that's wondering! This drum could have easily been added at any later date, but is a great match for the reason I mentioned above!
5x14" - No paper tag inside this drum, but it is in the same nice player-grade condition as the set with minor cosmetic wear, but nothing notable.
