You’re looking at a 1993 Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray 4.
This was crafted in the golden era - when they really cared about using great wood selection and doing impeccable builds.
If you’re into the original Stingrays, then there really isn’t much I need to tell you aside from specifics:
- Serial puts it at 4/1/93 (no foolin’!)
- Swamp ash body, rosewood board
- 3 band EQ
- 9.4 lbs
This particular bass… well, it’s been through a bit, aesthetically.
The previous owner decided they needed to kinda mess the back of it up (and a small bit of the front?) in the name of “personalization.” They cut some words into the finish.
Most of it has been repaired enough to barely see it, unless you’re truly searching for it.
Some of it is just not gonna ever look good without major work…
Another thing that was done was a professional defretting job.
HOWEVER, that has since been UNDONE with the board being slotted again, leveled flat, and STAINLESS frets installed. These are the small, “vintage style” frets, so it’s really nice to play and the fact that they are stainless pretty much means it will handle abuse for decades more before needing the slightest attention.
There is also a brass nut installed.
The end result basically is a killer 32 year old bass, with the brand new modern frets that will last, yet have the classic feel of the much older or reissue versions. It has the most beautiful figuring in the birdseye maple neck, as well as a great figure to the ash in the body. The color is gorgeous as well.
And whether you decide to just play it as it is, get “punk rock” and cover it with stickers to cover the damage, or even have it refinished, the core of this bass is incredible. All of that killer punch and drive that a Stingray should be. The weight is below average for this era, it’s not a hefty one.
Includes a non-original molded case that fits nicely.
Set up and intonated, ready to play right out of the box.
Brand new set of EB Cobalt 45-105 strings installed, as well as a used set of (possibly EB Cobalt) flats included as an extra bonus.
Sold as-is, no returns. Please feel free to ask any questions you’d like answered.
