Ludwig - 14x5" 1967 - Mod Orange Keystone Badge Jazz Festival Snare Drum

Here's another drum that you just won't see every day! This is a shockingly clean and insanely rare 1967 Ludwig Keystone badge, Mod Orange Jazz Festival snare drum originally from the personal collection of Mr. Mod Orange himself, Bun E. Carlos.

Ludwig first started making Mod Orange drums in 1967, they first appeared in a catalog in 1970. This drum is date stamped November 15, 1967 making it one of the earliest known examples of a Mod Orange snare drum. The drum has a Keystone badge with serial #519701. The vast majority of Mod Orange drums were made with the later Blue/Olive badge.

The Mod Orange finish is notorious for fading easily. This drum ranges from 100% unfaded to moderately faded. Roughly 2/3 of the drum is completely unfaded with brilliant original orange, red and purple colors still like new. On roughly 1/3 of the drum the original colors remain but the brilliance of each color has diminished. The drum probably sat with one panel facing a window for some period of its life.

This looks new enough to

The hardware ranges from flawless to showing some minor traces of pitting.

No other issues.

The edges are excellent, throw off, muffler and butt plate all function perfectly. The overlapped seam is clearly visible and tight. Unplayed modern Ludwig logo heads top and bottom, original Ludwig wires. Bun E. Carlos hand signed the inside of the shell.

The photos depict everything accurately.

This drum is a true collector grade rarity. Super clear 1967 date stamp, Keystone badge, Excellent color.

Serial Number: #519701
