Ludwig - Super Rare, Downbeat 4-Piece Set, 20", 14", 12", 14x5" Matching Snare!! 1961 - Oyster Pink Pearl, Beautiful!!

Here's another uber rare vintage kit in amazing condition that you won't see everyday.

Oyster Pink Pearl is the rarest and most sought after finish of the early 1960s Ludwig finishes. This set looks almost like it's straight out of the 1960 Ludwig catalog "Downbeat" page!

The set is in fantastic shape. Zero rash on the rack tom. Edges are clean and smooth all around. The set had faded somewhat but retains most of it's original color. The degree of the fade is visible in the photos of the drum with their heads off. The hardware is gleaming. The black paint on the bass spurs has chipped off in several spots. The photos depict the condition accurately.

They have the original factory heads all around. We we put the unplayed bottom heads on the tops of the toms tuned them up nice and "Bop-ish", They sound tight, articulate and super controlled, with a nice warm and woody tone.

The 20x14" bass is date stamped June 20, 1961 with an unfinished interior. The14x14" floor tom is date stamped July, 21, 1960 with an unfinished interior. The 12x8" tom and 14x5" snare are both painted white inside with no date stamps. It is characteristic of floor toms and bass drums of this era to be unfinished while rack toms and snares are painted white.

The floor tom has a transition badge and the rest of the set has NSN Keystone badges. This is also common to find mixed badges on sets of this transitional era.

To the best of our knowledge this set came from the Ludwig factory in this configuration.

All of the drums' internal muffler systems mounts and legs are complete and in working order.

It's truly rare to find any complete 1960 Pink Oyster set. Even rarer to find one in this condition.
