Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
You are looking at a 1970's era Electro Voice 664A model dynamic cardioid microphone with Dual Impedance but currently set at High Z and perfect for singing and broadcasting as it was intended. A strong, clear tone that can be put at Low Z at any time. It's an excellent uni-directional type with the original sage green finish and comes with the longer cable in which to operate as well as the original 400 model stand in which to display.
These 664A series mics are basically bullet proof and are a very high quality mic. The original 664 mic was called the "Buchanon Hammer" as salesman would demonstrate it's toughness by hammering a nail into a wood board then showing how the mic still worked like new. This 664A was the 3rd generation and just as durable as it's 1st generation model except for more compact, lighter, and stronger output with better options. It was the most practical 664 in the series though it lacks the charm and mid century vibe that the 1st gen 664 had.
Pic # 2 is from a catalog I have showing the 664A mics basic specs and characteristics. Again, mic is dual Z depending on the users needs.
The 664 was first introduced in the early 1950's with a larger, heavier frame. The 3rd generation was slimmed down to about half the size and came with a much stronger dynamic cardioid element. The 664A also has the modern XLR input as well so you can use any XLR cable though no cable is provided. The XLR pins on this mic were cleaned for a perfect connection.
As you can see in the pictures provided this mic has extremely lite wear for it's age and in very nice overall cosmetic condition. There are no dents, loose parts or fractures either. The mesh grill has no deformation and it's free of odors or tarnish. The original inner foam liner was in bad shape so it was replaced for better sound characteristics. The label that wraps around the tip of the mic shows no wear but completely legible. The lower pistol grip badge looks excellent.
The lower pistol grip has lots of tension and works without issue. The mic can easily be changed from high Z to Low Z by simply loosing the two screws on the switch cover. Don't even take them out...just loosen them and then use the on / off switch to push up or down and you can see the Hi / Lo mechanism move to one spot or the other. Once you have the Hi or Lo showing then you have the impedance you want. Tighten the screws accordingly and you have your impedance. Too easy! Takes about 20 seconds to do from start to finish.
The on / off switch slides smooth and works perfectly. The threads for the stand are perfect and this mic will screw onto any stand you have.
Mic is an easy 9 cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10.
The mic comes with a longer 20 foot cable making it perfect for situations where you HAM radio or other audio equipment is farther away. Good for stage work as well. The cable is pliable and free of any wear. Functions perfectly and has the male 1/4 inch end connector.
This mic is ready to go!
MICROPHONE STAND IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The stand is a period E.V 400 model type that was specifically designed to work with models like the 664A. It has the same sage green paint scheme and makes for a very stable platform. It's just as nice as the microphone and is made of aluminum being very rugged i& lite weight in nature.
There is a bolt that mounts the mic to the stand so you can quickly remove the mic if needed. The base has two original pads that are in excellent condition. The stand really compliments the mic as well. A great accessory to have and on the valuable side. The stand alone is worth around $70.00.
As with all my other vintage microphones...
