1966 Hermanos Conde Flamenco Blanca
This 1966 Hermanos Conde Blanca is a fine example of a classic Conde guitar. Hand-built by Faustino Conde in Madrid, Spain, it features a spruce top and cypress back and sides, delivering the kind of sound professional flamenco players seek out.
The guitar previously belonged to a collector and writer on flamenco, who informed me (after my purchase) that it was originally owned by Nino Ricardo. During a visit to Felipe Conde's shop in Madrid, I confirmed that Nino Ricardo and Faustino Conde were close friends, and that Faustino frequently provided guitars for Nino.
Provenance aside, this guitar stands out for its playability and sound. It has a warm tone when played lightly but offers great resonance, punch, and growl when driven. It was skillfully restored by Oregon luthier Peter Tsiorba, who performed a refret, replaced the saddle and nut with new bone, installed Sloane tuners, made light structural repairs, and cleaned the instrument.
The guitar is set up with the low action typical of flamenco guitars, making it effortless to play. It also plays in tune all the way up the neck. It comes with a modern Felipe Conde case with plush interior.
With its great sound, comfortable playability, and unique history, this guitar is an excellent choice for both performers and collectors.
