How The Beat Bug Looks
The Beat Bug 3 is a portable tempometer, essentially a device that measures the tempo (beats per minute) of a drum or other rhythmic source and displays it for the drummer or musician.
Here's how it works:
- 1. Sensors and Connections: The Beat Bug 3 uses a sensor to detect the rhythmic pulses from a drum or other instrument. You connect the sensor to the Beat Bug 3 using a mini jack cable.
- 2. Tempo Measurement: The Beat Bug 3 measures the time between each beat and calculates the tempo (BPM).
- 3. Display: The Beat Bug 3 then displays the measured tempo on its screen, allowing the drummer or musician to see the current tempo.
- 4. Monitoring and Linking: The Beat Bug 3 can be used to monitor two different sources or linked with another Beat Bug 3 unit using a patch cord, allowing multiple musicians to see the same tempo.
- 5. Accuracy and Features: The Beat Bug 3 is designed to be accurate, with a high-speed microprocessor and the ability to monitor tempos from 10 to 255 BPM without skipping numbers.
- 6. Power and Functionality: The Beat Bug 3 is battery-powered (using two AAA batteries) and features a sleep mode to conserve battery life, waking up with a tap when needed.
- In essence, the Beat Bug 3 serves as a reliable tool for monitoring and keeping track of the tempo during musical performances or practice sessions.
The Beat Bug follows your tempo. It reads a signal coming from a trigger source and shows you the actual tempo you are playing at in real time. This allows you total freedom to vary tempos and still play in time. It is a step beyond "playing to a click" Anton Fig always had one on his snare drum during his reign on Letterman's show.
