Hohner Cembalet CF electric piano 1963 - 1966 - Natural

Here we have a good working example of the FIRST electric piano produced by Hohner (Germany/1963). It is incredibly rare to find one that actually works, so massively collectable....At the time it was a major success, as its portability enabled bands to use them on gigs/tours eg there is footage of Christine Perfect/Fleetwood Mac playing one.....

The notes were generated by plectra plucking the reeds. It sounds "harpish" in tone, and there was a reasonable sustain. (but no footswitch/pedal sustain), so its wise to play it like an organ ie hold down the notes....There is a vibrato circuit (fixed rate/speed), which helped to beef up the sound. There is also a voltage flip-switch, 120V and 220V being the options.There is a h/phone socket, a chicken-head volume control, and switches for vibrato and mains (with pilot light) on/off. Originally, there was a knee-controlled tone-changer device, and a facility for a swell pedal...but these functions have been discarded.

Condition? The keys are in an amazing state, considering they are 60 years old! Lovely and white, woth NO scratches. Having a lid to close down after use, obviously protects the keys from any harm. The wooden casing is well scuffed, but has no cracks/splits. Legs could be found, maybe Clavinet ones can be used?

The onboard pre-amp is now working well, and KKGB will supply a 1:1 passive transformer to eliminate the nasty mains hum. All action parts have been repaired/fabricated, and the instrument has been voiced/tuned to best possible levels. No onboard speakers. No legs supplied. Fixed mains cord attached.
