From an estate sale so I don't have any history on this very rare bird. All the reeds blow easily and it is complete. Gorgeous patina and a few dents as shown in the photos. Museum worthy, certainly a unique addition to your own collection. Here is the Wikipedia description:
The couesnophone, also known as the goofus or queenophone, is a free-reed musical instrument in a saxophone shape, patented by French instrument manufacturer Couesnon in 1924. Its reeds vibrate when the desired keys are activated and the player blows through a tube. "Best described as a mouth-blown accordion," "it sounded like a cross between a harmonica and an accordion."
The couesnophone was introduced into jazz and America by bass saxophonist and vibraphonist Adrian Rollini, though he is sometimes credited with its invention.[1] The term "goofus" might have been coined by jazz musicians such as Rollini,[4] or Ed Kirkeby,[5] because it is easier to pronounce.
I would add that it plays more easily laid horizontally using a flexible tube , think melodica.
The dual thumb rests are interesting and no strap ring.
Very hard to find any comps, therefore I'm pricing this based on an example sold on Reverb a while ago. This one is little nicer. No case, but I'm a very careful packer.
