A combination of a neck Strat pickup, middle single coil, and a Telecaster bridge pickup produces a versatile sound with a warmer, fuller tone from the mini-humbucker in the neck, a bright and articulate sound from the middle single coil, and a punchy, snappy attack from the Telecaster bridge pickup, allowing for a wide range of tones depending on which pickup(s) are selected and how they are blended together. This mod was developed in response to the needs of the players in the large variety theater shows in Branson and Nashville. With the diverse variety of music that is presented in these shows, the players are constantly having to change guitars to get the sounds they want for the individual songs. The universal problem is that these shows move at such a fast pace, there simply isn’t enough time to to make the desired instrument changes. The players there needed one guitar that would take the place of two.
Haywire Custom Guitars answered this problem by creating a hybrid of the two most popular single and double cutaway style solid body guitars into one versatile instrument. No more running around to change guitars during a live performance when you have this guitar. Change from country to rock sounds with a mere flip of a switch!
The solid six-saddle vintage style bridge and matched pickup allows the player to get those classic twangy Nashville country tones, while the three pickup design with enhanced switching configuration allows the player to evoke the sounds of Hendrix, Clapton, and everything in between. The "Number One" comes standard with either the active EMG SA Series pickups, the passive style Haywire Custom Series Neck pickups. This combination includes a Strat body and a very nice Custom Satin finished neck.
Key characteristics of a neck Strat single coil, middle single coil and a Telecaster bridge pickup combination:
Warm and smooth neck tone:
The Strat pickup in the neck position provides a fuller, warmer sound with less pronounced highs compared to a standard single coil, ideal for smooth chords and lead lines with a bit more body and bass.
Bright and articulate middle tone:
The single coil in the middle position offers a clear, articulate sound with a brighter character, perfect for clean rhythm playing and adding definition to your tone. It's a perfect reactive pickup when played simultaneously with another pickup. A combination sounding quacky and a good choice for slide playing.
Punchy and cutting bridge tone:
The Telecaster bridge pickup delivers a snappy attack with a bright edge, ideal for cutting through the mix with strong rhythm playing and lead lines with bite.
Versatility:
- Clean tones:
- By using a mix of pickups, you can achieve a balanced, clean sound with good clarity across the frequency spectrum.
- Crunch and overdrive:
- When pushed with distortion, the combination can provide a nice blend of warmth from the neck pickup, cutting edge from the bridge, and articulation from the middle pickup.
How the pickup combination works together:
Positional versatility:
Depending on which pickup or combination of pickups you select, you can quickly switch between a warmer neck tone, a bright middle tone, or a cutting bridge tone.
Blending options:
When using the middle position with all pickups selected, you can blend the characteristics of each pickup, creating a unique, balanced sound.

THIS GUITAR HAS A WORKING BRIDGE TONE CONTROL!
In MOST Fender Stratocaster guitars the tone control doesn't work for the bridge-only pickup on a Stratocaster.
It works on a few, approximately 1% of Stratocaster guitars whether made by Fender or by Squier, or Affinity, Fender Japan, Fender Taiwan, Fender Mexico, American (circa 1991) or Fender China and more have no tone control on the bridge pickup. The tone controls do work for the other four switch positions.
Why?
It was just a design that was only meant to please the inventor, Mr. Leo Fender.
Leo wanted a pickup position that sounded similar to a steel guitar. So now in Fender guitars the bridge pickup selection has no tone control wired to it whatsoever and no one at Fender Corp. since then has seemed to notice. They have failed to hear what guitarists for years have asked. Can we simply have a tone control on our bridge pickup? YES.
