Rogers Covington-era Early 60s Drum Kit/Set - Champagne Sparkle, B&B lugs/Jasper Shells

I found this set with all but one original factory head and it appears to be complete, minus three tension rod washers and rubber feet for the BD spurs and FT legs.

20/12/16 Swingtime configuration in original champagne sparkle with an original early 60s Powertone wood snare drum! It includes the original cymbal arm and tom mount for the bass drum.

Here’s a breakdown of each drum:

Powertone snare drum-

Very good condition! Very clean on the interior and edges look fantastic. The hoops and hardware have some pitting. I believe there’s only one cracked B&B lug. The wrap looks great and is very secure.

8x12 Rack Tom-

Good condition! The interiors and edges look fantastic. The hoops and hardware have some pitting. There are what appears to be 10 cracked B&B lugs, but the drum is rock solid and holds tunings great. The wrap looks great and is very secure.

16x16 Floor Tom-

Good condition! The factory Beavertail lugs do have moderate pitting as well as the hoops. The interior and edges look great. The wrap looks great and is very secure.

14x20 Bass Drum-

This is by far the least clean of the lot. There is visible water damage on the interior, but there doesn’t appear to be an odor (other than normal vintage smells), so I’ve left the drum as-is and played it with joy. There are a few plies separating in the reinforcement rings in a few areas, but this appears to be an easy fix. The drum does have 10 cracked lugs, so when not gigging with this drum, I’ve detuned the lugs to keep the tension off of them. One lug does appear to have bent mounting screws and is raised off of the shell slightly. It has held tension just fine, so I’ve been playing it as-is, but it could probably use new mounting screws. The wrap is in good condition, but looks just slightly more faded than the rest of the drums (very slightly). Despite these issues, this drum sounds VERY good and plays beautifully…it’s one of the best sounding 20” drums I’ve heard!

I’ve played this kit as-is, but it could be detailed to look even better. It is rock solid and has been a real joy to play. The Jasper shells sound very fat! I think this kit belongs in a studio, but that’s up to the next lucky owner to decide!
