Teisco / Crown model MJ-2  c.a. 1964

The Crown badge on this Teisco indicates it was likely imported by Jules Stieman of Crown City Loan and Jewelry of Pasadena California. While Crown purchased from a variety of manufactures, the Teisco MJ-2 body shape and side bar inlays are a strong indication this instrument was built by Teisco in the mid 1960’s.

The body has a burgundy finish and is peppered with small dents and dings on the front and belt buckle worming on the back. The body has a hole in the rear where someone has moved the original strap button. The chrome is bright and the tremolo and electronics function normally. The tremolo bar is a replacement (last picture). The pickups sound fantastic with loads of bite and sustain. The neck is 3 piece construction with a rosewood fretboard and sidebar inlays, its beefy but not a baseball bat. The headstock shape is quintessential Japanese and gives the guitar a unique Samurai vibe. The headstock has rub wear along the edges and some small dings and dents on the body. The open back tuners are tight with a couple of slightly bent shafts that are still very functional. Overall it plays and sounds great.

The guitar comes with it’s original, hardshell coffin case. The case is in good condition with functioning latches but it has lost the leather that covered the metal handle strap.
