Vintage Fender Jazzmaster Pickguard - Tortiose Shell
This is an actual 1960’s era Jazzmaster pickguard. It is NOT a reissue or “classic series”. It was on a guitar that had been spray painted in the late 70’s or early 80’s - pickguard and all. The customer asked me to refinish the entire guitar and replace the pickguard with a new one. He did not want the original one back. Fast forward several years and I remembered that I had this. I carefully sanded the spray paint to remove it from the pickguard and found this awesome tortoise shell pattern. After the paint was removed, it was sanded with grits of 1500 to 5000 to remove the scratches an buffed on a professional finish buffer. The result is what you see in the pics. I would say it looks excellent for being almost 60 years old. probably better than many that were not painted. There are no cracks. It does curl up very slightly at the edges but the screws should flatten that out.
