David Garibaldi’s Tower of Power, 2009 Yamaha Phoenix 8-Piece Drum Set in Saphire Fade. Signed, Extras, Authenticated

David Garibaldi has retired from Tower of Power! David's innovative grooves propelled the band and helped define their unique funky sound. After an amazing 55 year run, he's putting away his Tower of Power sticks.

His ground breaking work with Tower of Power and his long list of instructional books and videos, have established him as one of the most influential drummers of our time.

Yamaha Phoenix drums were introduced in 2009. They were the most expensive drums Yamaha had ever produced. The drums feature a radical half-inch-thick 11 ply shell. They start with inner plies of hard jakoba, then progressively softer plies of kapur, maple, and finally burled ash. This was a lot for drummers to wrap their heads around and it took a while for drummers to warm up to the innovative new design. They are now considered one of the best-sounding drums ever made.

David Garibaldi received this set and debuted it with Tower Of Power in December 2009 at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The Phoenix was his “go-to” set for the next six years. He played the set on countless gigs and recordings, including Tower Of Power’s, “On The Soul Side Of Town” album. He retired the set in 2016.

The set features a high gloss burled ash “Sapphire Fade” finish. It includes a 22×18″ bass drum with 10×7.5″, 13×9″, 16×14″ mounted toms and a Yamaha SD-2255, 12×5.5″ steel side snare with YESS mount. These drums made up David's go to Tower of Power configuration drum set circa 2009-2016.

David takes meticulous care of his gear! The entire set is in excellent condition but does show some very minor signs of its years traversing the globe with Tower of Power. If you look very closely you'll find a few minor scuffs in the drum finishes and some minor scratching on the hardware. The rack and mounting hardware show slightly more scuffs and scratches. David's settings are still marked on the rack in Sharpie. Any flaws are purely cosmetic and can be seen int the photos. There are no flaws that that affect the performance or integrity of any part of the drum set, rack or hardware.

-The entire rack system, throne and pedals in the photos are all included with the set!

-The cymbals, 14" snare and Sub-Kick seen in the photos are available separately and are not included.

The set also includes a 24×16″ bass drum, and an 8×7″ tom that Garibaldi experimented with, but rarely played and two bass drum mounted double tom holders. Also included with the set is the 22" Yamaha logo bass drum head signed by David and all members of Tower Power circa 2021. The inside of the bass drum shell and the batter side 22" bass drum head are signed by David Garibaldi.
