Very Good Sigma by Martin DM-3 Guitar and Martin-style Hard shell case. This one dates from during 1984 to 1990 as it was made in Korea and has a stamped label on the back-brace instead of a paper label.
It has multiple small flaws that I have tried to show in the photos. The guitar picks are pointing to some in the later photos.
The sides of the guitar body have several areas of "blushing," which turns the finish cloudy, and obscures some of the woodgrain and black trim. The finish still seems to be protecting the wood, so this is a cosmetic issue (you can see what I am referring to in the pics).
The last photo tries to show the aging and thinning of the finish on the top (which is on the back as well). The finish has flexed into the woodgrain but still seems to be protecting the wood. Some folks say that a thin aged finish like this helps allow the woods to vibrate easier and improves the sound.
The very good thing is that overall the top, back, neck, headstock, etc. look nice.
And this is a good playing guitar; that sounds somewhat "Martin-like." This makes sense since Martin ran the Sigma guitar works.
- This DM-3's action is set-up with 1.75 mm on the 1st string, and 2.1 mm on the 6th string (measured at the 12th fret with the 1st fret fretted). You can have it set up to your preference with your local tech.
- There is a new set of D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Lights (12-53) installed.
