Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome .
You are looking at a somewhat rare RCA (MI-12010) Aero Pressure microphone first produced in the early 1940's (possibly late 30's) I believe and manufactured up until the mid to mid 1950's. It has that classic "Bullet mic" design that was very futuristic and elegant for it's time. It comes with the original (but shortened) cable and equally rare Atlas DS-7 model desk stand shown.
This mic is really going to pop anywhere it may be displayed or used. Yes, it does work.
This mic has been tested and has an excellent working element with a high Z setting. Very high pitched "rockabilly" tone that has a 1930's / 40's sound.
It can still be used for general broadcasting purposes as it was originally intended. Zero bass so if this is the sound you are trying to recreate then this mic will be great for you. It's omni-directional as well so it comes in handy if you are trying to record with a guitar.
This MI-12010 mic has a beautiful two tone Umber brown painted finish. These mics either came in chrome or umber grey paint. The chrome version seems to be much rarer and was probably more expensive because of the finish which would explain it's rarity. There are just a couple small scuff marks and tiny scratches on the mic itself but far nicer than one would expect on a mic of this age. No dents or fractures. Best part is the front grill has zero bent or broken ribs which is almost impossible to find on these mics as they are usually rough in that department. This is honestly the 3rd nicest example of this model I have ever come across. The white silk inner screen has some discoloration and a few smaller holes but still in very good condition.
I have another of these listed for sale with it's original stand if you don't like this example.
The mic has a short original 18 inch cable. The cable is still soft and is very pliable with no damage. The vintage Cannon XLR male connector shows very lite wear and allows you to use any longer XLR cable as an extension for more length more length. I put some electrical tape on the cable to help keep it in the groove of the base. You don't need to use that tape but it will help keep it in place.
You'll see this mic will easily unscrew from the RCA stand if you wish to use this mic on another stand of choice or as a harp mic. It will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have as well.
Mic is an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE...
The stand is a nice period Atlas piece (model DS-7) that really compliments this RCA mic.
This early first generation DS-7 desk stand is made with a heavier cast iron base and dual chrome adjustable risers to get just the right height needed. This desk stand from the late 1940's is perfect for just about any screw on microphone or mic clip you can think of. Excellent for stability and peace of mind.
This DS-7 has the two tier "waterfall" design that was quite popular in the late 30 and 1940's. Very deco in nature and you just don't see too many of these early DS-7 stands around.
This stand has just typical lite wear but very good overall. The top chrome riser is almost perfect while the lower riser shows a bit more wear. The chrome clutch mechanism works perfectly. The cast iron base has original dark grey paint that has just a couple tiny, paint chips, discoloration and a few tiny scratches.
The base even has the original felt pads and they are in great shape. Please let the detailed pictures be your guide.
Total dimensions of stand with mic is 11 inches high x 6 inches wide but can be raised up to 15 inches tall if needed.
I'd rate the cosmetic condition of this stand a true 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10.
This will be a fun piece to use or simply display in any fine vintage mic collection.
