Up for sale, a 1993 Fender Custom Edition Terry-1 in excellent condition, complete with the original hardshell case and factory documentation. Among the rarest and most unique guitars ever produced by Fender Japan, the Terry-1 was crafted at the Fujigen factory in limited quantities for just one year, sporting a singular design that was engineered to pay tribute to the 30th anniversary of legendary Japanese surf guitarist Takeshi Teruchi (Terry) and his band Blue Jeans’ debut. Teruchi is an incredibly influential figure in the world of Japanese electric guitar, and this Terry-1 takes its design cues from a number of the instruments favored by the surf icon over the course of his career, including Mosrite’s The Ventures model, Yamaha’s Flying Samurai, and the Fender Telecaster.

Built by Fender Japan’s Custom Edition team, the Terry-1 sports a number of design features otherwise unseen on any other “Made in Japan” instruments. The offset Tele-style body is crafted from basswood, with a maple neck and bound 22-fret rosewood fingerboard, and the trio of single coil pickups were wound specifically for this model. Just as with the Yamaha Flying Samurai, the middle and bridge pickup are coupled both visually and tonally, while an added mini-toggle “Coil Tap” (bridge coil on/off switch) enables easy switching between “humbucker” and single coil modes. The pickups are sparkling and punchy, with girth and chop at the neck and focused attack towards the bridge. This Terry-1 weighs 8lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and accurate intonation.
