Up for sale is this vintage 1965 Gibson SG Special electric guitar in factory Pelham Blue, a true unicorn of a guitar. Unfortunately, this unicorn has been rode hard and put up wet for decades but, believe it or not, is still a good playing instrument. This one is offered "AS IS" and "AS FOUND," so please read the entire description and see all of the photos.

Let's just get the bad out of the way: this guitar has recieved the worst headstock "repair" that we have ever seen and the photos will explain that better than we can. We have NOT attempted to undo the current repair and are unsure of what's underneath or if the truss rod works as it should (although the neck is straight as it sits). The control cavity has also been busted and poorly repaired and touched up, but the rest of the guitar still exhibits the original Pelham Blue finish. It has been poorly routed at some point for a pair of DiMarzio pickups that have been in the guitar for a long, long time. There are a lot of stickers that we have not attempted to remove. The instrument has had several sets of tuners over the years and is currently rocking some Grover keys as well as one or two not-Grover keys.

The pots are original and date to 1965. The pickguard is original, but cut for the larger pickups, and the back plate appears to be original as well. We did open it up and spray out the electronics and everything works as it should. It features the later 1965 nut width of 1 9/16".

Believe it or not, this guitar truly is a survivor and is ready to pull out of the box, tune up, and hit the stage as soon as it arrives. The neck is straight and the guitar is strung with light gauge electric strings. It plays all the way up the neck with comfortable, low action and that might be the wildest part of the story. The original frets are starting to get low and there is some fret buzz in a few spots but, overall, for everything that's going on, it's amazing how well this guitar plays.

If you're a fan of Pelham Blue on vintage Gibson guitars and, like most of us, are on a budget, this might be the one chance to get into a Pelham SG at a realistic price (it would easily be $10K+ if it were in reasonably decent condition) and, crazy enough, it's actually a good player... This guitar truly is a rocker!

A newer padded gig bag will be included and the instrument will be well-packed to ensure safe shipping.
