Part of a special run of Rickenbacker basses for the Japanese market, this is a model “RM1999” - built to 4001C64 specifications without the reverse headstock. Similar to the 4001V63 series with a few exceptions, namely the tuners, tailpiece, and tug bar.
This example shows signs of wear with a small number of dings and dents as shown in the photos.
Interestingly, this one has an application of overcoat sprayed onto it with the specs written in the control cavity.
A great sounding and playing instrument. Dead-straight neck with 0.051” action at the 12th fret on the bass side. Strung with flats of some kind - I’m not sure of the brand. Perfect for the fan of faithful reissue models.
